Message from the Director
It is an honour to serve as the director of the All India Institute of Speech and Hearing. I along with the staff of the Institute aim to take AIISH to new heights, making its mark not just in Mysuru or India, but across the globe.

We claim that the services offered at the Institute are world class. This is true! Nowhere in the world you will see such a spectrum of professionals working together to improve the quality of life of those having communication problems. The Audiologists, Speech Language Pathologists, Otorhinolaryngology, Clinical Psychologists, Special Educators all work together along with a team of other technical and administrative staff work as a seamless team so that our clients can live more meaningful, and constructive lives. In order to offer this service to those with communication problems, we continue to develop the art of effectively working together and to not let meaningless barriers impede the services we offer.

While the Institute now has five objectives: training, research, clinical services and public education as well as administration and finance, I think providing clinical services are by far the most important. It is through clinical services that the other objectives are derived. If not for our clients, none of the other objectives can be implemented with real zeal. We, our team at AIISH, endeavour whole heartedly to provide comprehensive high-quality world class services to those with communication problems, irrespective of their economic status, caste, creed, race or language. We have and will not spare any effort to facilitate our clients to utilise the funds / services / commodities of existing and new Government schemes. In doing so, we will strive to address the woes of those with communication problems.

It is well established that a large population of those with communication problems live in rural India. Taking the services of AIISH to rural India is absolutely essential. I would like to accelerate the work of my predecessors to make this dream a reality to a larger population living in rural India. Like my predecessors, I hope to reach the unreached.

While aiming to better the institute and make it a Centre of Excellence, I hope to take everyone along, working as a team. Healthy, constructive and diverse ideas of the stakeholders will be used to strengthen the institute. Transparency in the functioning of the institute will give no room for doubts regarding the running / effective functioning of AIISH.

The high-quality training programmes of AIISH are one of our greatest assets. The students form our back bone and are our best ambassadors. Our alumni have made enormous contributions in services, education and research all over the world. We are proud of their dedication, compassion, understanding, empathy, honesty, commitment, and most importantly being good citizens with values. We will continue to bring out the best in our students by providing them with the best infrastructure, innovative curriculum, inspiring teachers, and best clinical resources. In turn, we hope that they will continue be our messengers to the outside world.

Without doubt, the research done in the institute has made an indent nationally as well as internationally. The research done in contemporary areas has been made possible with the availability of state-of-the-art equipment and highly qualified and dedicated staff. We plan to upgrade our own inhouse journal, the Journal of the All India Institute of Speech and Hearing, to international standards.

AIISH has been fortunate to have Directors who have provided directions and contributed greatly to the growth of this institution and set path in new areas which will be effectively executed. In alignment with their efforts I hope to take AIISH forward, with the support and dedication of our faculty and staff, and all our stake holders. None of this will be possible without the support of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.
